Hypertension in pregnancy and preeclampsia
High blood pressure, whether it develops during pregnancy or pre-existing condition, can pose a serious risk to both mother and baby.
It can also be superimposed or lead to preeclampsia, a multi-system disorder unique to human pregnancy characterised by high blood pressure and involvement of one or more other organ systems and/or the baby. Other organs such as kidneys, liver, blood, brain, heart & lung may get affected, compromising the baby’s growth and wellbeing. To reduce these risks, blood pressure control and evaluation of the other organ systems are critical.
If you have high blood pressure and planning for pregnancy, it is also vital to optimise blood pressure and prevent preeclampsia with pregnancy-friendly medications. With his expertise in obstetric medicine, Dr Nandi can help manage these medical aspects of pregnancy.
